Knowing how to draw a line

Listen to the article

There are times in life when we find ourselves carrying a heavy burden within us. It is not just the memory of something that happened, but the meaning we have attached to it, the emotions that remain unresolved, the words we did not say, or those that hurt us.

Often, when we talk about ‘making peace’, we immediately think of forgiving another person. As if the process could only be completed when we are ready to reopen a relationship, to re-establish contact, to say: ‘Everything is fine’.

But is that really the case?

Making peace does not mean reconciling with someone. It is not always possible, and above all, it is not always what we need.

When we try to forgive someone too soon, or without really being ready, we risk leaving a door open. A door through which dynamics, emotions and wounds that have not yet been understood or transformed can slip back in.

It is as if we were saying “it’s fine” when deep down we know it isn’t true, that things aren’t really sorted out yet, thereby dismissing the feelings we are experiencing. We believe it is right to forgive because we understand why the person behaved that way, but inside us the anger and resentment remain, and we feel deeply hurt.

That is why I believe it is far more important to shift our perspective: we do not really need to ‘make peace’ but to draw a line under it.
Drawing a line under what has happened is a deeper and more authentic process. It does not require the other person to be present. It is an inner process, one that involves our body, our feelings, and the way we relate to the experience we have gone through.
When we do this, it is truly very powerful.

It means taking the time we need.
It means acknowledging what remains inside: tension, anger, sadness, disappointment.
It means giving space to these feelings without judging them, without trying to get rid of them quickly.

In the method I practise and teach, the body does not lie. It is in the body that experiences are stored and continue to live on, until they are truly processed. Closing means allowing those traces to emerge, to be felt, and to be transformed.

It is a process that requires presence, energy and time.
With my guidance, you can train your body to accept what has been, without remaining trapped by it.

A real opportunity to be present, to make choices and not to repeat the past. Move on!
